Make your wheat herbicide program work harder

Optimize the inputs going on your acres.

Wheat growers face a seemingly unending list of chores and challenges each season. This often results in a smaller window of time to get work done, so it’s critical to maximize every task and the impact of each input.

“Time is money and anything that can help growers streamline their work helps boost their bottom lines,” says Kathleen Seitzinger, UPL wheat herbicide portfolio manager. “One way they can gain efficiencies is by simplifying their weed management program, which can help them focus on other areas of the farm.”

Using a product that provides broad-spectrum weed control can help reduce the number of sprays. “For wheat growers that want an effective product with application simplicity, we recommend Batalium® Amped™,” says Seitzinger. “It combines three robust active ingredients, at full rates, into one solution for convenient, high-performance weed control, plus it is easy to use with a long list of features and benefits.”

Batalium Amped offers wheat growers:

  • An industry-leading formulation for optimized storage, handling and mixing
  • A comprehensive combination of flucarbazone-sodium, fluroxypyr and bromoxynil for all-in-one weed control
  • Broad-spectrum, flush-after-flush control of hard-to-kill grassy weeds
  • Best-in-class crop safety
  • Compatibility with more than 20 registered tank-mix partners

Don’t overlook resistance management

While convenience is key, another important consideration for wheat growers when building a weed management program is managing herbicide resistance. Seitzinger recommends a two-fold approach.

“Agronomic best practices like crop rotation and strategic tillage practices can help avoid the buildup of resistant weed populations,” explains Seitzinger. “But then, growers should choose a herbicide with multiple modes of action to optimize resistance management.”

Kochia, in particular, is a weed species that poses a significant challenge to wheat production as its biotypes have developed resistance to many herbicides.

“The days of using a single mode of action to control kochia are in the past,” says Seitzinger. “Using a solution like Batalium Amped, which attacks the toughest resistant kochia with multiple modes of action, helps even the playing field in the fight against resistance.”
