As customers make herbicide decisions for next season, they may be tempted by current farm economics to cut corners where they can.
But the best application in a tough farm economy is one that gets the job done right — and offers more flexibility in every trip across the field. That’s why Enlist® herbicides should be the cornerstone of any herbicide program with the Enlist® weed control system, whether farmers are planting Enlist E3® soybeans or corn.
Enlist herbicides are designed to help your customers get more from their applications. As farmers make their herbicide decisions this season, below are a few reasons they should rely on Enlist herbicides.
- On-target application — Herbicides need to land and stay on target for optimum weed control. With the inherent near-zero volatility of 2,4-D choline, Enlist One® and Enlist Duo® herbicides provide effective weed control and stay where they are sprayed. They are formulated with Colex-D® technology to reduce drift — those particles that can move away from the target during application. With inherent low volatility and the ability to better control physical drift, Enlist herbicides do not require a volatility reduction agent in the tank.
- Tank-mix compatibility — Your customers can make every trip across the field count with more than 1,700 qualified tank-mix partners, including residual herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and more. With the option to add tank-mix partners to applications of Enlist herbicides, your customers can potentially save trips across the field and increase weed control through postemergence residuals. That’s a win-win any year and helps to make every pass count.
- Flexibility and freedom to spray — Enlist herbicides can be applied over crops with the Enlist® trait from burndown through postemergence. Customers can spray on their schedule — through R1 on Enlist E3 soybeans and through V8 or 30 inches tall on Enlist® corn (up to 48 inches when using drop nozzles.) There are no calendar cutoff dates or temperature restrictions, so growers can make decisions based on their farms’ needs and specific weed pressure. Enlist herbicides put your customers in the driver’s seat when it comes to herbicide applications.
6 tips for success with Enlist® herbicides
Once your customers understand the benefits of Enlist herbicides, help them get the most from applications. These best management practices will maximize the characteristics of Enlist herbicides and help farmers get excellent weed control:
- Start with a clean sprayer and tank. Clean out the sprayer before using Enlist herbicides to avoid contamination from a prior application.
- Choose the right nozzle. Use only a qualified nozzle and pressure combination listed for Enlist One or Enlist Duo herbicide to ensure optimum spray coverage.
- Apply the best spray volume and pressure. Use a spray volume of 10 to 15 gallons or more per acre for ground equipment. Apply with an appropriate spray pressure based on product label requirements and conditions to ensure optimum coverage.
- Use the correct spray rate. Use spray rates from the product label when weeds are shorter than 6 inches and crops are within the appropriate growth stage window.
- Enlist Duo herbicide — Spray 4.75 pints per acre.
- Enlist One herbicide — Spray 2 pints per acre.
- Check the wind speed. Drift potential is lowest at wind speeds less than 10 mph. Target applications at wind speeds greater than 3 mph but less than 10 mph. Check your state regulations for additional restrictions on wind speed.
- Avoid temperature inversions. Do not spray during a temperature inversion. Watch this video to better understand temperature inversions and how to ensure on-target application. Inversions are more common between dusk and dawn.
